The Charles Stewart Mott Foundation understands that educating residents and business leaders is key to improving Michigan’s broken municipal finance system. That’s why they’ve thrown their support to the League’s SaveMICity initiative in a variety of ways, including most recently the Michigan Municipal League’s SaveMICity podcast and the past two years sponsoring a session at the annual Mackinac Policy Conference.

On a recent SaveMICity podcast, Mott Foundation President Ridgway White sat down with the League’s Anthony Minghine, COO and Deputy Executive Director, to discuss why they have identified the municipal finance issues as an area of focus and are supporting the SaveMICity effort. Mackinac Policy Conference
For the past two years, their support has enabled us to present the SaveMICity message to the influential audience at the prestigious Mackinac Policy Conference.

At this year’s Mackinac Policy Conference on May 30, the League’s panel discussion was aptly titled “Not Open for Business: Why Disinvestment in Michigan Cities is Hampering Economic Opportunity.” Panelists shared their views on Michigan’s broken municipal finance system and how investing in cities must remain a top priority if we hope to attract top businesses and  talent.
