SaveMICity Podcasts Take a Deep Dive into the Headlee/Prop A Lawsuit

The State of Michigan is being sued for Headlee violations by Taxpayers for Michigan Constitutional Government (TMCG). The complex issues involved in this lawsuit are explored on Michigan Municipal League’s SaveMICity podcast with host Anthony Minghine, COO and deputy executive director for the League.

The problems and conflicts involving the Headlee Amendment and Proposal A from 1994 are often discussed as one of the reasons why Michigan’s system for funding municipalities is broken. This pending lawsuit is therefore being followed very closely by Minghine and the SaveMICity initiative.

In Episode 2 of the SaveMICity Podcast, TMCG co-founder Steve Duchane lays the foundation for the lawsuit. In Episode 5 posted earlier this month, Minghine and Duchane are joined by TMCG co-founder John Mogk, Wayne State Unversity law professor, and William Mathewson, general counsel for the League. The four have a lively, expanded discussion on the topic and update listeners on the latest activity with the lawsuit.

These SaveMICity podcasts are part of the League’s We Love Where You Live podcast series. The podcasts are also available on iTunes, Google Play, and SaveMICity Podcast.
